Printing from the Lab Macs

In an effort to maintain a more reliable connection between the printers and the Lab Macintosh Computers, we are no longer going to use "AppleTalk" for printing. Instead we will be using the "lpr" protocol. Basically, this means that you will not be able to find the printer you want in the "chooser". You can set up a printer using the simple instructions found here under the section "Configuring LPR on a Mac". Please talk to Wendy if you have an difficulties.

A few specifics:

Remember:

You do not need to set up a desktop printer each time you want to change printers. If the printer you want to use has an icon on the desktop, you can make it the default printer by simply clicking once on the icon (such that it is selected), then type the "Apple" key and the "L" key simultaneously. The printer icon should then have a dark outline around it, indicating that it is the active printer. You only need to follow the above instructions if there is no icon representing the printer you want to use.
